Michigan’s nonpartisan, nonprofit news source

Bridge Magazine becomes Bridge Michigan to reflect mission, ambitions

Bridge Michigan logo

Today, we’re officially changing our name to Bridge Michigan. Our nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom has always provided honest, fact-driven journalism on the state’s diverse people, politics and economy. We felt it time for our name and logo to reflect this mission and commitment to our state.

Bridge Michigan is a publication of the Center for Michigan, a nonprofit and nonpartisan “think-and-do tank” founded by Phil Power in 2006. The Bridge newsroom launched in 2011, and it has grown from a single editor and single reporter to a team of 11 full-time journalists and several freelance reporters.

The name Bridge Michigan is not by chance. Our intent is to create a publication that bridges the wonderfully varied aspects of Michigan: from east to west and north to south, from urban to rural and suburban, from conservative to liberal,” Power said.  “We do not push any particular line, other than to publish journalism that is straight down the middle, trustworthy and illuminating for our readers.”

The name Bridge Magazine fit our reporting when we produced a bi-weekly newsletter. But today, Bridge Michigan is a daily publication with more than 10 million unique users this year alone. We have dedicated newsletters for our robust business, environmental and health reporting. We deeply cover the issues that matter to our state and your family. The name Bridge Michigan better encapsulates our enhanced coverage, our massive reader growth and our growing ambitions.

The Center for Michigan is also the publisher of BridgeDetroit, a sister newsroom to Bridge Michigan that is laser-focused on lifting the issues that Detroiters identify as important to their lives. With BridgeDetroit’s launch this year, it became even more important for Bridge Michigan’s name to reflect our statewide focus and align our brand with that of our colleagues.

While Bridge Michigan’s name has changed, our commitment to being your go-to source for insightful coverage of life in our state has not. Thank you for your trust and your readership.
