Bridge Michigan continues to expand, launching a nationwide search for an executive editor for innovation to grow audiences and launch our award-winning journalism to new heights.

The posting of the job comes as Bridge expands its suite of storytelling to include a host of other media to explain the big issues facing Michigan.

The executive editor for innovation will partner with Executive Editor for Impact Joel Kurth to lead a newsroom of 15 journalists who have won hundreds of state and national awards.

Bridge Michigan is initiating the search after the March death of Lisa Yanick Litwiller, who was hired in January after a career in audience engagement and community journalism.

“We took some time to regroup, heal and reconsider the position after Lisa died,” said Katy Locker, chief executive officer of The Center for Michigan, the nonprofit publisher of Bridge Michigan and its sister publication, BridgeDetroit.

“We’re still in mourning. She was a great leader and partner, but we’re confident we can find someone to help propel us to new heights.”

Those interested can apply for the job here.

The search follows a season of transition at Bridge.

Since December, Locker’s predecessor, founding CEO John Bebow, and longtime editor David Zeman have retired, while Jonathan Oosting and Leslie Allen were hired as deputy editors, and Jordyn Hermani and Simon Schuster came aboard as Capitol reporters.

The dual executive editor leadership structure reflects Bridge Michigan’s commitment to untraditional and non-hierarchical approaches.
