Editor's note: This position has been filled.

Bridge Michigan, the state’s preeminent public policy online news site, is seeking a temporary editor to assist with breaking news, coaching reporters and story ideation in our rapidly expanding newsroom.

Bridge has grown tremendously in the past few years, adding to our stable of reporters who cover Michigan politics, the environment, schools, business, data, health, enterprise and breaking news. We’ve grown so quickly that our editors sometimes have trouble keeping up.

We are looking for an experienced editor to join our dynamic, nurturing newsroom for up to nine months, working up to 28 hours per week. The successful candidate has experience juggling assignments and working with sharp, smart reporters and seeing stories from ideation to publication.

We need someone to help meet our daily 6:30 p.m. deadlines, so while there is some flexibility, the ideal candidate would work four days per week and be available to put our daily stories to bed. The workload could involve editing up to three stories per day, copy-editing others, proofing or writing a newsletter and working with reporters and policing the website.

Who we are: Bridge Michigan is a nonprofit, online news site, which means that we try to use the best parts of legacy media but are not beholden to tradition. We produce fact-based nonpartisan journalism about public policy that goes where the facts lead, no matter conventional wisdom.

As a nonprofit, we pride ourselves on being a newsroom that allows great ideas to flourish. We try to have a culture of ‘yes,’ and provide a nurturing environment that respects work-life balance.

Bridge Michigan has offices in Lansing and Ypsilanti. We are flexible and trust employees to ascertain their best work environment. Bridge Michigan is operated by the Center for Michigan, a fiscally secure nonprofit that also publishes the editorially independent BridgeDetroit news site.
