Join Bridge and the Joyce Foundation for a discussion on extremism in Michigan

may lunch break

Bridge Michigan invites readers to join us and the Joyce Foundation for a Zoom discussion from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 about the rise of extremism and militias in Michigan.

From the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol to the involvement of militia members in demonstrations against COVID policies in Lansing, armed extremism may seem like a new phenomenon, but scholars say it’s been years in the making.

This webinar will discuss how democratic institutions are affected, and what — if anything — policymakers might do about increases in extremism. The discussion features Jonathan Oosting, a Bridge Capitol reporter who has written extensively about militias and hate groups, and Heath Druzin, host and creator of the podcast Extremely American.

This event replaces the May installment of our monthly Lunch Break series of in-depth talks about items in the news, such as the state’s redistricting process, coronavirus and K-12 education outcomes.

Please fill out this registration form to be sent an invitation to the event, including the Zoom link.
