Looking back and looking forward this holiday season
As we reach the end of 2022, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the stories and projects that had the biggest impact with our readers this year. In particular, we’re proud of our tireless election coverage, which informed voters about the issues on their ballot from signature collection to the primary to the general election to post-election analysis of what the results mean for our state. Bridge Michigan was there for you every step of the way.
We’re also reflecting on the leadership transitions happening at Bridge Michigan and our nonprofit publisher, the Center for Michigan. In January, I’ll be transitioning to a role as publisher of Bridge Michigan and current COO Katy Locker will become the Center’s CEO. This summer, the Center’s founder Phil Power stepped down as chair of the board and the board elected longtime board member and civic leader Paul Hillegonds as the new chair. The Center’s board also added three new members: Regina Bell, Sara Wycoff McCauley and Cindy Goodaker.
It would have been impossible to imagine that when Phil founded the Center for Michigan in 2006, and we launched Bridge Michigan in 2011 that we would have grown to become Michigan’s premiere nonpartisan statewide news source, growing from two journalists to a full team of more than 25.

We also couldn’t imagine that we’d be approaching 10,000 supporting readers and $1,000,000 in annual reader donations. In 2021, we raised over $900,000 in reader donations, with an average donation of $100. We’ve set a lofty goal of reaching $1,000,000 in reader support this year, which means raising $180,000 in November and December.
Will you help Bridge Michigan reach this goal, supporting us in this exciting time of transition and helping us to inform even more Michigan residents in 2023? Thank you to the generous support of the Glassen Memorial Fund, your donation is matched dollar for dollar!
Yes, I want my dollar to go twice as far!
We truly appreciate your support, and we wish you a very happy holiday season.
