Watch the Bridge Book Club discussion of 'The Women of the Copper Country'

Bridge Book Club October

If you missed Wednesday’s Bridge book club discussion of “The Women of the Copper Country,” we have your back. We recorded our Zoom conversation, which featured author Mary Doria Russell. We were joined by more than 180 Bridge readers for this fantastic discussion.

Russell discussed the process of researching and writing “Copper Country,” the real-life Annie Clements and James MacNaughton, the Italian Hall disaster, and the connections between this story and Romeo and Juliet, and much more.

“The Women of the Copper Country” is a historical fiction novel that tells the story of Annie Clements, a courageous woman who started a rebellion by leading a strike against the largest copper mining company in the world. Set in and near Calumet, this story takes us to the Upper Peninsula in 1913 at the height of northern Michigan’s copper mining boom.

Bridge Michigan hosts bimonthly book club discussions on books with ties to Michigan. Our May/June book selection was "The World According to Fannie Davis" by Bridgett M. Davis and our August selection was “Arc of Justice.”

Bridge book club will be taking December off, but will return in January. We will be posting a survey in Bridge, asking for your suggestions for our next book selection in the coming weeks.

Nearly 500 Bridge members received a free copy of “Copper Country” so they could take part in our October book club. If you would like a free e-book copy of future book club selections, join Bridge Club today.
