Watch Bridge Book Club talk on ‘The Death and Life of the Great Lakes’
The reader-favorite Bridge Book Club resumed on Wednesday afternoon with a discussion of one of Michigan’s (and the world’s) most precious natural resources. The Bridge Michigan engagement team and nearly 170 Bridge readers were joined by journalist and author Dan Egan for a discussion of his award-winning environmental book “The Death and Life of the Great Lakes.” If you were not able to participate live, you can watch a recording of the talk between Egan and Bridge environmental reporter Kelly House below.
Among the topics, Egan discussed invasive species in the Great Lakes and opportunities for preventing their proliferation; oil pipelines such as Enbridge Line 5; high water levels in the Great Lakes; the potential for water diversion to drought-stricken communities and answered many reader questions live.

“The Death and Life of the Great Lakes” is Egan’s portrait of an ecological catastrophe happening before our eyes, blending the epic story of the lakes with an examination of the perils they face and how they can be restored for generations.
