The south shore of Lake Superior includes parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Leaf’s book explores her life on the south shore and its history, from the Anishinaabe and fur traders to commercial fishing, lumber camps, copper mining, as well as the modern environmentalist movement.

During the event, Leaf discussed the process of writing a memoir, her research for writing about Lake Superior’s history and ecology, the most recent impacts of a changing climate on her lakefront property, reader reactions to “Impermanence” and much more.
