Census 2020: Look up population changes in your Michigan community
Detroit and Flint had double-digit population losses. Suburbs including Novi, Macomb Township and Dearborn had double-digit gains.
Thursday’s release of the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2020 decennial count appeared to confirm the continuation of a decades-long migration of residents from cities to suburbs and away from rural areas like the Upper Peninsula.

While 50 of Michigan’s 83 counties lost population, western Michigan continued to grow, as did Oakland, Washtenaw and Livingston counties in southeast Michigan.
