Searchable database: How are your schools funded?

Michigan education advocates spar over the definition of "equity." Some say all schools should receive equal funding per pupil, while others claim some should get more, to address the needs of different student populations.

In Michigan, the foundation grant is the basic building block of a school district’s budget. It is the amount of money districts get per pupil, and is funded by state aid and local property taxes. Schools also receive federal grants depending on how many students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

You can use our searchable database to find out how much money your district receives in local, state and federal aid, where it ranks and how it spends it. Figures are from the 2012-13 school year, and are the most recent ones available.
